Playing cricket at Karori is a complete experience and we try and cater for all of those ranging in skill from the first class developed player, to the most social and developing player. Skill level is not the only thing we look at either, as age is an important factor to how a player is developed.
The ability to create and manage an effective coaching program within the club is therefore a very important aspect to our offering to all of our players. The primary coaching role in the past has been conducted by our overseas professional. We have had an overseas professional at Karori Cricket Club every year for the last 12 years. In almost every occasion they have had coaching accreditation and have played to at least a first class level. More recently, we have contracted those players to spend a minimum amount of time with all of our players, which has been welcomed with very position feedback.
We believe that getting out into the community is also very important when it comes to coaching. Over the last two years we have been working with Wellington Cricket in developing what is called the role of the Coaching Development Officer. This coaching role operates within the junior club and assists with local colleges and tertiary facilities to help develop cricket. Again, this has been a very successful program and is something we have committed to Wellington Cricket to continue.
