KARORI CRICKET CLUB INC.

125TH CELEBRATIONS

1880- 2008

The KCC had the pleasure of celebrating its 125th over the weekend of 14 -16 March 2008 at the upgraded Catley, Curtis, Nimmo Pavilion. The people came from far and wide to attend and see the new clubrooms and the newly developed park which is now the largest in Wellington which includes new playing fields for cricket

We were very fortunate to have some special guest speakers including the legendary Alan Davidson, Neil Harvey Ashley Mallet, Ian Craig and our own John Reid , with their wives plus other former NZ representatives including Evan Gray , Bruce Morrison, Derek Stirling, Richard Petrie, Erv McSweeney, etc. Many thanks to Doug Catley and Cricket New Zealand President Don Neely for arranging the Australians’ visit to KCC on 15 March.

The celebrations were well attended over the weekend and included informal drinks on the Friday night when many old friends had the opportunity to catch up and reminisce the days they were involved with the Club.

On the Saturday night we had the formal dinner which was held in the upgraded Catley Curtis Nimmo Pavilion and was attended by a 100 people both past and present players supported by the senior and junior clubs

It was a wonderful occasion with MC Richard Petrie and excellent contributions from our special guests not to mention the auction which raised several thousand dollars which has been passed back to both senior and junior clubs to be used for the development of players. It has been recommended that the senior contribution will be used to purchase trophies for the annual prize giving to be placed in the new trophy cabinet that was donated to the Club for the occasion, alongside the updated honours board.

The Sunday was a relaxed affair with a BBQ and a celebrity 20/20 cricket match captained by  Richard Petrie and Lee Edwards which included past and present players including two young cricketers from the junior club

The club produced a wonderful booklet covering the 125th years of the great Club. Many thanks for this go to John Stribling, Harry Gibbons, Sir John Anderson, and Carey Clements.

A special thanks to Life Member Doug Catley for his great generosity to the organizing committee, and to other members including Mike Curtis and Peter McLaren for their contributions. It is intended that a permanent record of the events and attendees will become  a “time capsule” stored in the trophy and memorabilia cabinet. Our next big celebration for the Club will be the 150th anniversary to be held in 2030 !! Make sure you are there.
