The meaning of the word “win” got some airing in the last Saturday “DomPost”.    “Win” means “to gain victory”; “to be placed first”; “to get by effort”; and “to be successful in a game”.

Tonight I want to talk about winning, because 2008/09 has been a tremendous season for  “K-Town” doing just that. I am speaking on behalf of our Club’s nine  (9) life members. By the way, yesterday at the Basin Reserve, our life member Mike Curtis, was honoured by the ICC in a presentation.

Let’s be clear – tonight is your night throughout the grades.

KCC is the winner of the Cricket Wellington Norwood Trophy for this season. we got there simply because you all did so well.

The club championship recognises the contribution by each and every team in a club. Let’s recognise this wonderful achievement- the second time in three seasons that “K-Town” has won it.

This is a unique prize-giving evening. Unique because what it signals to every other club.

It signals that this is “our time” – something that David Templeton, our convenor of senior selectors keeps saying.

It signals that “K’Town” has  caught up and passed other clubs.

So, on the field, we have had a tremendous season. As we go through the awards and prizes this evening, that is the conclusion.

Off the field, KCC has also achieved a lot:

Financially, we are in a sound state.

Organisationally, we are the envy of the other clubs.

Relationships – wise, we have built excellent relationships with Cricket Wellington,  Cricket NZ,  Karori Junior Cricket Club,  the Wellington City Council officers, and with associates like cricket clubs and the Terawhiti Bowling Club.

We have worked hard to get the excellent facilities:

The grounds and wicket blocks.

The practice nets.

The pavilion.

Wonderful donations of a trophy and memorabilia cabinet; of a score-box; of an electronic score- board, and most recently, - a fine clock.

These are assets any cricket club around New Zealand would be proud of.

We are !!!     Nearly every initiative around Karori Park is an initiative our Club has taken.

So, - each one of you can feel very proud about yourself, very proud about your team,   and proud of your club.

It is indeed, - “our time” …. so let us enjoy it.

Thanks for a great season.
