OBITUARY FOR MICK WIFFIN: Died 28 April 2009:
Mick Wiffin, a very well known, and longtime Karori resident has passed away. He was aged 75 years.
In his more youthful days, Mick was very much a sportsman, indulging in rugby, cricket, fishing, hunting, and tennis. He was captain of the Karori rugby team; and played cricket for Karori CC in various grade teams. He was notable for his fishing exploits, particularly at Makara.
Back in 1967, Mick’s construction firm won the contract to build the Club’s new pavilion. This was the culmination of ten years of planning, and precedes the current Catley Curtis Nimmo Pavilion.
At his funeral service at Karori cemetery, held on 4 May 2009, a number of speakers talked of Mick’s many attributes and his characteristics. He was a true Karori man, who when his health was better, was a regular attendee in the old KCC upstairs lounge.
