Karori Fire Security Services v East’s Originals
This weekend saw the top 2 teams up against each other for the second time this season played on artificial at Kilbirnie Park.
We lost the toss and got put into bat first which is what we wanted to do anyway. The opposition decided to open the bowling with a leg spinner and it proved to be a great decision claiming a couple of quick early wickets.
The pitch provided little spin but the bowling lines were nice and straight and the shot selections left a lot to be desired.
Looking in trouble at the 20 over mark on about 70 for 6 we had to look again at our bottom order providing us a respectable total that would be defendable and yet again Andrew played a very valuable knock at number 9 scoring 47 not out.
We ended up compiling 172 all out which is a pretty decent total so we were confident our bowlers could do the damage.
Mark and Andrew opened the bowling and both were on song with Mark’s pace and Andrew’s lines proving to be a bit difficult to score off.
Mark and Adrian followed suit and although the bowling was reasonable we were leaking runs in the field like a siv.
Ultimately this proved to be our downfall as the opposition at the 20 over mark were also 72 for 3 but our last 20 over’s in the field cost us dearly with a few missed catches and a lot of missed fields providing relief for the opposition batsmen.
To Mark and Adrian’s credit in what looked to be a runaway win to East’s at the 30 over mark they bowled extremely well to get the game down to 8 runs needed off the last 12 balls.
East’s managed some quick singles and a boundary to finish us off but some guts shown by the boys to make a tight contest out of it.
We manage to hold a slim lead on the points table so some exciting times ahead for us and nothing short of some wins required from here on in.
