2d are a new team to the club this season, made up of nineteen and twenty year old players, a number of whom played for our junior club.

Karori 2D vs Onslow: November 24th-December 1st

In this 2 day fixture Karori lost the toss and were put in to bat on a the Ben Burn artificial.  They started well and made Onslow regret sending them in.  In the end they finished with 237 all out off 44 overs with L Harvey getting 44, O Haanen 36 and H Hutton 35 and every player except one getting into double figures..  This was a good score and put the team in a confident mood.  This showed in the bowling with Onslow being dismissed for only 157 with D Park collecting 4-67 off his 13 overs.

On the second day Karori arrived confident of an outright win with an 80 run 1st innings lead.  Most of the team were going to the Beckham game and wanted to leave early and this showed in the game with the team slumping to be all out for 142 with only T Haanen getting a score with a quick fire 55.  Onslow made easy work of their 223 run target in the end, getting there with 5 wickets remaining.  Again D Park was the best of the bowlers with 9-4-31-2.  So the game ended dissapointingly for Karori with an outright loss and they will be looking for a more consistent performance in the next match.

Karori 2D vs Brooklyn, November 10-17

This was Karori 2D's first two day match of the season, played at Ben Burn Park.  Things did not start as planned as we lost the toss and were sent in to field in the rain.  Things did not start to badly though with Brooklyn slumping to be 60/5 after some tight bowling by D Park and J Hazelhurst.

From this point on things took a downward slide as the match ball turned to mush and morale dropped due to the weather.  Brooklyn's lower order batsmen started to unleash some big shots and Karori started dropping catches.  In the end Brooklyn ended up with a score of 290/9, with Karori putting down 8 catches.

During the innings break the rain stopped and the sun came out so Brooklyn had the chance to use a  dry ball.  Karori's batsmen did not perform and ended all out for 122 with Heath Hutton providing the only real resistance with a quick-fire 58.  Karori went home on the first day very disappointed with a lot of work to do..

On the second day Karori were forced to follow on.  Once again they were in trouble and were dismissed for 145 with Heath Hutton again top scoring with 57 and James Hutton chipping in with 30.  So in the end Karori were left embarrassed by an innings defeat.

Karori 2D vs Easts played at Karori Park 3 November

In Karori 2D's first match of the season the skipper won the toss and sent in Easts to bat on a pitch which provided movement for the bowlers on an overcast day.

Easts started slowly and headed into drinks at 20 overs with only 60 runs on the board but with 7 wickets in hand after some tight bowling and fielding by Karori.  In the second 20 Easts upped their run rate and ended up with 158 all out after 37 overs.  D Park taking a miserly 1/20 off his 8 overs and S Redmond taking 3/26 off his 7.

Karori's innings started brightly with number three batsmen H Hutton smashing the East opening bowlers all around the park.  He ended up caught for 49 off  29 balls but left with Karori in an excellent position.  From then on things took a turn for the worse with wickets falling quickly.  Things got even worse when the weather caved in with Karori' still needing 20 runs with only one wicket to spare.  But somehow in the heavy rain they managed to chase down the total with 1 wicket remaining.  T. Haanen remaining not out on 21 and T Goulden not out in 4.

So Karori left happy on the day with a hard fought first up win in the hard conditions, but with a lot of work to do.
