Match Report – 31st October 2009
Karori Senior Reserve vs Wellington Colliagians.
1 from 1 for the new captain and the potential start
of a player coup against regular captain Matthew “Patches” Atkins. Once again
we travelled to the wonderful home away from home,
After winning the toss, we decided to bat first and
made a very competitive 264 from our 50 over’s. The top order started slowly
but set a base with wickets in hand and we reached 100 for 4 off 30 overs. Jono
“tree hugger” Sole and Lee “T.I.Ger” Edwards started the onslaught with a
barrage of sixes and fours and put on a century stand to take us past 220. Jono
was finally caught off a sky-scraper for a brilliant 76 after numerous chances
and numerous sixes with a broken bat. Tiger found some support with the lower
order but finally departed for a man of the match 88.
Pat “Patrice” Wheelan and the 8 ft Unit Hamish Wright
took the new ball and battled hard with the openers before High tower claimed a
deserved wicket. The introduction of Fletch “in the box” Te Aika produced two
quick wickets with his deceptive leg-side attack. The power combination of Hill
and our South American import Nick Enrique Hearn did the damage. We bowled well
in partnership even though there was a lack of English being spoken from one
end.
A big welcome to Pat and Enrique and a well deserved
win for the unicorn set up a fantastic night at the clubrooms.
