Karori Cricket Club :: Hazlett Trophy

HAZLETT TROPHY

Match Report – 31st October 2009

Karori Senior Reserve vs Wellington Colliagians.

1 from 1 for the new captain and the potential start of a player coup against regular captain Matthew “Patches” Atkins. Once again we travelled to the wonderful home away from home, Endeavour Park (not to be mistaken for Adventure Park thank you Porirua City Council). Once again the mighty corn came away with a comprehensive victory and a bonus point.

After winning the toss, we decided to bat first and made a very competitive 264 from our 50 over’s. The top order started slowly but set a base with wickets in hand and we reached 100 for 4 off 30 overs. Jono “tree hugger” Sole and Lee “T.I.Ger” Edwards started the onslaught with a barrage of sixes and fours and put on a century stand to take us past 220. Jono was finally caught off a sky-scraper for a brilliant 76 after numerous chances and numerous sixes with a broken bat. Tiger found some support with the lower order but finally departed for a man of the match 88.

Pat “Patrice” Wheelan and the 8 ft Unit Hamish Wright took the new ball and battled hard with the openers before High tower claimed a deserved wicket. The introduction of Fletch “in the box” Te Aika produced two quick wickets with his deceptive leg-side attack. The power combination of Hill and our South American import Nick Enrique Hearn did the damage. We bowled well in partnership even though there was a lack of English being spoken from one end.

A big welcome to Pat and Enrique and a well deserved win for the unicorn set up a fantastic night at the clubrooms.
